Our signature fund raiser, for over 20 years, is our Crab Feed, which generates the majority of our charitable revenues. Until the pandemic, we held the feed at the City’s Community Gym. During the pandemic, we had “drive through” dinners. Starting in 2023, we went back to our traditional “in-person” crab feed, and relocated to the Boys & Girls Club. We raise approximately $30,000 from this crab feed, which includes fresh crab, pasta, salad and bread. We also include a beer and wine bar. Online Silent Auctions–and a limited number of live auctions–finishes the program.

Kiwanis Food Pantry
We have had an emergency food pantry for a number of years, but during the pandemic, the program was dramatically expanded. First, we began to receive thousands of dollars in donations, and then came our wonderful volunteers (including Kiwanis Club members, Key Clubbers and community volunteers), who packaged as many as 250 boxes of nonperishable food, and distributed them for free to families in need. Under the direction of Kiwanis members, Nance Matson and Sande Sutter, the program distributed roughly 40 tons of food (as of December 2022).
Currently, the Pantry is an “all hands on deck” operation: now that we have relocated to space in the Napa Junction Community Center (300 Napa Junction Road), we continue to provide a monthly “drive through” distribution, and are working on expanding services. We work with the Napa County Food Bank, as well as do our own food purchasing. We also organize food drives, in conjunction with our local Boy Scouts.

Scholarships and Community Grants
Much of our fund raisers go back into the community in the forms of student scholarships and community grants. We have provided 2-6 scholarships each year to graduating High School Seniors. We also offer small grants to our teachers to supplement their supply budgets, or to purchase items to enhance their teaching programs. We also provide grants and sponsorships to community events and programs, such as the annual Pumpkin Path, or Kiwanis One Day events at our local schools.

Key Club Sponsorship
Some of our Key Club members helping at our annual Crab Feed
Our greatest asset is our Key Club members, representing American Canyon High School. They provide volunteer support for our programs and events, but also help with community groups throughout American Canyon!! We support our Key Club members by offsetting some of their conference costs, helping them raise money for their projects and including them in our regular and annual programs, from monthly General Membership meetings to DCM’s and our Annual Dinner.
